First Fridays: Mariachi Reyes and Linda Paúla Marcos
The People’s Forum and Artists Against Apartheid present the November edition of their monthly First Fridays series, featuring live performances by the multigenerational acoustic ensemble Mariachi Reyes and vocalist Linda Paúla Marcos.
Mariachi Reyes brings a lifelong family performance practice rooted in Mexican mariachi traditions to the stage. Vocalist and songwriter Linda Paúla Marcos, drawing on her Afro-Andean heritage, will perform original music alongside guitarist Alba Rios. The set highlights traditional Peruvian criollo accompaniment and offers an advance live preview of Marcos’s forthcoming album, Humané.
The organizers curate First Fridays to position live acoustic music and cultural heritage as active tools of movement building and collective struggle, linking contemporary urban organizing in New York City with historic Latin American protest traditions, including nueva canción.
Admission starts at twenty dollars. Advance registration and tickets are available online through Eventbrite. The venue is located at 320 West 37th Street in Midtown Manhattan, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, near 34th Street–Penn Station and Times Square–42nd Street, accessible by the 1, 2, 3, 7, A, C, E, M, N, Q, and R subway lines.
